Apple has stuck to the same general design language the past few times, and while it might not make the iPhone 14 Pro Max a visual step forward, there’s little to complain about with this tried-and-true design. The ultimate smartphone moment has a great fit and look, but the iPhone 14 Pro Max still feels like a step forward. One unique design feature of the iPhone 14’s sibling, the Pro Max, is its size. At 160.7mm tall and 240g in weight, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is one of the toughest phones you can buy. As someone who generally prefers lower-end phones and used to use the iPhone 13 Pro, the transition to the iPhone 14 Pro Max seemed relatively daunting at first. After using the phone as my device of choice for over a week, I’m happy to say that the transition wasn’t as subtle as I thought it would be. Yes, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is still a very heavy smartphone. It’s always too big for some people to use comfortably. But, so do I, I’ve gotten used to his weight and figured out how to manipulate him with one hand. iPhone 14 Pro Max display There are two main advantages to using the massive size of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the first being the roomy 6.7-inch screen. That screen is an OLED screen with a resolution of 2796 x 1290 – the same as the sticky 460ppi of the lower-end iPhone 14 Pro. Like the iPhone 14 Pro, the screen quality of the 14 Pro Max is also very good. Colors are intuitive and beautiful, textbooks are easy to read, and screens are brighter than ever. You can expect a typical maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, but in direct sunlight, where more light is needed, the iPhone 14 Pro Max can hit 2,000 nits. In fact, on a sunny day, you should have no problem seeing the phone outside. iPhone 14 Pro Max also retains the 120Hz first-generation refresh rate that Apple introduced in the iPhone 13 Pro series, giving you ultra-smooth power when interacting with the phone. Combined with the smooth nature of iOS 16, this creates one of the smoothest, fastest phones I’ve ever used. Of course, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is one of the first iPhones to feature an always-on display. Press the power button to turn off the iPhone screen, and the sensor screen is rendered with a soft effect that contains ads, textured screen blockers, and full-color wallpapers. I’m always the biggest defense fan right now, but I have to admit, the commitment to Apple is one of those things that comes across to me. iPhone 14 Pro Max Dynamic Island. The Apple era is over, and its place has been taken by a solid black bar at the top of the screen. Dynamic Island is a silly name, and it’s one of the most inspiring iPhone features I’ve seen at times, and it makes me worry about what Apple might do with it. Swing to the song?
